Named for the two-headed Roman god of beginnings, transitions, and time - Janus is a through-composed piece of indeterminate length for solo upright bass. Various combinations of natural harmonics are played in a rapid and continuous back-and-forth motion with the bow, producing a highly rhythmic, resonant, and ever-changing sound.
Released on cassette tape this coming May 20th, Side A plays the piece in it's original recorded form, and Side 1 plays the same recording electronically reversed (there are satanic lyrics.) Available digitally (and through download codes included with the tape) is a recording of Side A and Side 1 played simultaneously.
